Highways
& Traffic

Guild’s Highways & Traffic division has grown steadily over the last 50 years to become one of the most significant areas of our business. Our list of successful projects spans much of Southern Ontario, most of the province’s largest cities, and every level of roadway – urban, municipal, regional, and the provincial 400-series highways.

  • Roadway lighting and signage
  • Traffic signal systems
  • Parking garages
  • Parking lot lighting
  • Mass transit infrastructure
  • Airport lighting and instrument landing systems

We have a broad Highways & Traffic service offering, which includes new construction, modifications and retrofits, maintenance, as well as sophisticated Design/Build support for projects as required. Our expertise has expanded to cover large-scale public transit projects, like the ongoing development of York Region’s Viva system. We were also one of the key contractors for the expansion of the runway system at Lester B. Pearson International Airport, developing and executing innovative construction methods for complex lighting equipment.

From the most complex LRT to the simplest pedestrian crossing.

High-Mast Lighting

High-mast lighting is a Guild specialty. We’ve been installing these systems across Ontario for more than two decades; in fact, we pioneered assembly and installation techniques that are now regarded as industry best practice. Many of the lighting installations and upgrades along the 400-series highways were completed by Guild, and we’re proud to do ongoing work on these vital transportation corridors.

Smart Highways

Over the last 20 or so years, there’s been a steady development in Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) that track and respond to traffic patterns in real time to keep vehicles moving. We have extensive experience implementing those systems. We’re one of the primary contributing contractors for the Ministry of Transportation’s COMPASS system of cameras and in-road sensors; we played a key role in upgrading the electronic signage on several 400-series highways; and we also installed smart infrastructure on the 407 East extension, a section of Ontario’s only toll highway.

EV Infrastructure

We’ve been installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations since 2013, and all our work is completed by technicians certified by the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP). We offer turn-key installation from design to power on, including site suitability surveys, permit applications, utility locates, and testing of cabling and equipment. If the job requires it, we also do our own excavation and backfill, directional boring, concrete and asphalt work, and line painting. We round out our offering with exceptional warranties, and preventative maintenance programs that can provide 24/7service support, 365 days a year.
